Asafoetida, also known as Hing, is a dried gum oleoresin obtained from the roots of several Ferula species (Apiaceae), particularly Ferula assa-foetida. It has an intense, pungent aroma with sulfurous, garlicky, onion-like, earthy, and slightly balsamic characteristics. In perfumery, it contributes sharp, savory, and animalic nuances.
